For Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
- Must be an Advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu
- Minimum 10 years of practice in Criminal Law in Sessions Courts and subordinate courts
- Must have handled at least 30 criminal trials in Sessions Court as defense counsel
- Should have appeared in at least 5 Sessions Cases where judgments were delivered by the court(s) as defense lawyer
- Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and Tamil
- Thorough understanding of ethical duties of a defense counsel
- Ability to work effectively with teams and capability to lead
For Deputy Chief Legal Aid Defense Counsel:
- Must be an Advocate enrolled with the Bar Council of Tamil Nadu
- Minimum 7 years of practice in Criminal Law
- Must have handled criminal trials in Sessions Court as defense counsel
- Good communication skills and knowledge of criminal procedure
