This is an excellent opportunity for young researchers with B.Tech or M.Tech qualifications to work on cutting-edge research projects while earning a competitive monthly fellowship of Rs. 37,000/- during the initial two years.

IIT ISM Dhanbad, with its rich legacy since 1926, is renowned for excellence in mining, earth sciences, and engineering research. The institute offers a vibrant research environment with state-of-the-art laboratories, excellent faculty guidance, and opportunities to work on nationally important projects. This JRF position provides an ideal platform for candidates aspiring to pursue doctoral studies or build careers in research and development.

About the Junior Research Fellow Position

The Junior Research Fellow will work on a specific research project under the supervision of faculty members at IIT ISM Dhanbad. The primary responsibilities include conducting literature review, designing experiments, collecting and analyzing data, preparing research reports and publications, assisting in project implementation, maintaining laboratory equipment and safety protocols, and contributing to research presentations at conferences and seminars.

This position offers invaluable research experience that significantly enhances career prospects in academia, research organizations, and industry R&D divisions. JRFs get opportunities to publish research papers in international journals, present work at conferences, interact with leading researchers, and develop advanced technical skills that are highly valued in both academic and industrial sectors.

Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must possess either B.Tech or M.Tech degree in relevant engineering disciplines such as Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Chemical Engineering, or related fields, depending on the project requirements. The degree should be from a recognized university with minimum percentage/CGPA as specified in the project notification.

For B.Tech holders, candidates who have qualified in GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) will be given preference. M.Tech qualified candidates should have good academic records and relevant research exposure during their post-graduation. Practical knowledge of research methodology, experimental techniques, and data analysis tools is highly desirable.

Age Limit and Fellowship Details

The maximum age limit for applicants is 35 years as on the last date of application. Age relaxation of 5 years is applicable for SC/ST candidates, 3 years for OBC candidates, and 10 years for PwD candidates as per Government of India norms. Upper age limit may be relaxed for exceptionally deserving candidates at the discretion of the appointing authority.

Selected Junior Research Fellows will receive a monthly fellowship of Rs. 37,000/- for the first and second year. The fellowship may be revised for subsequent years as per DST/CSIR/UGC norms or project funding agency guidelines. In addition to the fellowship, JRFs are entitled to House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per institute rules and may receive contingency grants for research-related expenses.

Selection Process

The selection process involves screening of applications based on eligibility criteria and academic credentials. Shortlisted candidates will be called for a written test or personal interview, which may be conducted online or offline. The interview panel will assess the candidate's technical knowledge, research aptitude, understanding of the project area, and overall suitability for the research position.

Candidates with publications in peer-reviewed journals, conference presentations, or prior research experience will have an advantage during selection. Final selection will be based on merit and performance in the interview, subject to verification of original documents. The decision of the Selection Committee will be final and binding.
