- Maximum Age: Not more than 40 years as on 01 January 2026.
- For ST candidates, standard age relaxation of 5 years is applicable as per Government of India/Major Port norms.
- As per Regulation 9 of MbPT Employees (RSP) Regulations, 2010, for existing employees of any Major Port, upper age limit can be up to 55 years, subject to other conditions.
Age will be calculated with reference to date of birth recorded in Matriculation/SSC or equivalent certificate. No relaxation beyond prescribed limits will be allowed except as notified.
Qualification
Eligibility Criteria
Candidates must strictly meet the essential educational and experience requirements as per the official advertisement.
Essential Educational Qualification:
- MOT 1st Class Motor Certificate of Competency, OR
- Marine Engineer Officer Class I Certificate of Competency (Motor) issued under the Merchant Shipping Act, 1958.
Essential Experience:
- Minimum 1 year post–qualification experience as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer on board a foreign going ship.
- Experience must be after obtaining Class I Certificate of Competency.
Desirable Skills:
- Familiarity with port tugs/crafts, harbour vessels and shore–based marine maintenance.
- Knowledge of ISM Code, ISPS, MARPOL and statutory survey requirements.
- Ability to supervise teams, coordinate with multiple departments and prepare technical reports.
Other General Requirements:
- Citizenship of India.
- Good physical and mental health for duty on board port vessels and at marine facilities.
- No adverse / disciplinary record in present or past employment.
- For candidates already working in Central/State Govt/PSU/Major Port – application through proper channel with Vigilance/Disciplinary clearance.

Mumbai Port Authority has invited applications for 1 Marine Engineer post in the Class I cadre on regular basis for its Marine Department at Mumbai, Maharashtra. This is a high–responsibility officer level post in pay scale ₹70,000–2,00,000 with Industrial DA, cafeteria allowance and other admissible benefits as per Mumbai Port Authority rules.
The vacancy is earmarked for ST category and is open to experienced Marine Engineering professionals who hold a valid Class I Certificate of Competency and have sailed as Chief Engineer or Second Engineer on foreign going ships. Pay Scale: ₹70,000 – 2,00,000 (IDA pattern) with cafeteria allowance @ 35% of basic pay and annual increments as per MbPA RSP Regulations 2010.
At present level of pay, total monthly gross remuneration at minimum of the scale is around ₹1,51,000/- excluding work related perks and allowances.
Key Responsibilities
- Overall responsibility for operation and maintenance of main and auxiliary machinery on board port tugs/crafts.
- Monitoring marine engines, propulsion systems, pumping systems, electrical and control systems.
- Planning and supervising dry–dock repairs, surveys, periodic overhauls and statutory inspections.
- Ensuring compliance with Merchant Shipping Act, Classification Society rules and port safety standards.
- Maintaining technical records, log books, defect reports, spares and inventory.
- Coordinating with Master, Marine Department and workshops for scheduling maintenance without affecting port operations.
- Ensuring adherence to pollution prevention norms and safe engineering practices.
